Detroit Pistons: Storylines to follow vs. the New York Knicks

The Detroit Pistons made history against the Toronto Raptors and will try to keep it going against the Knicks in the final game before the All-Star break.

The Pistons managed to do something that they hadn’t done since 1964 last night in Tampa (Toronto’s temporary home) which is to have two players record triple-doubles in the same game.

If you would have bet that both Mason Plumlee and Dennis Smith Jr. would have triple-doubles on the same night, much less for the same team, well you’d probably be a billionaire right now because the odds against it were astronomical.

The Pistons also got strong play from their other young point guard, Saben Lee, who is making his case for a roster spot next season.

The Detroit Pistons don’t want to win too many games, but it would be nice to get one against the Knicks, whose fans are acting like they just won back-to-back titles when they were over .500 for a day or two. Relax, sheesh.

Here are three things to watch for in the game vs. the Knicks.

The answer is no, no they are not.

But you wouldn’t know it from the Knicks’ fans, who are practically dancing in the streets simply because they are in the playoff hunt for the first time in three or four hundred years.

I can’t blame them and I am actually excited for the Knicks’ fans, who have taking a beating over the years from one of the worst owners in all of sports. They have every right to be excited but let’s pump the brakes just a wee bit.

The Knicks are still just a .500 team, which is good enough for 5th seed in the awful East but wouldn’t even get you into the play-in game in the West.

The Knicks are a nice story and finally have some young players to build around, but they are still bad and will likely get wiped out in the first round of the playoffs if they make it.

They are loving Derrick Rose now while they are winning but check back with me in a few weeks and we’ll see how that’s going.
