Detroit Pistons: Would the Pistons trade Jerami Grant?

Earlier this season I asked whether Jerami Grant was untouchable in a blockbuster trade. The truth is that there are few players who are and most of them are LeBron James.

Nearly anyone else could be had for the right deal, so no, Jerami Grant is not untouchable. But that doesn’t mean Detroit has any intention of trading him nor would do so even for an offer like this, which seems pretty tempting on paper.

Jerami Grant has said that he wanted to play for a Black coach and GM in a Black city (SUBSCRIBER ONLY), so sending him to Boston would be a slap in the face, as they are none of those things.

Also, even a rebuilding team eventually needs players who can actually play, not draft picks and hope. The Detroit Pistons have a solid foundation with Grant, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, Josh Jackson, Saben Lee and Killian Hayes and may want to see where it is headed before they blow it up in Grant’s first season.

This would not be sending a positive message to fans, future free agents or their young players.

But three first-round picks is tempting, even if they aren’t going to be in the lottery, especially the way Troy Weaver has drafted so far.

It would give the Detroit Pistons the ammo to move up in one of the next few drafts, get another top talent and really embrace a youth movement.

But Weaver is also trying to build culture and right now Jerami Grant is the perfect guy to lead what they are trying to do, so even though this is a huge offer, I can’t see Detroit moving Grant.

The Detroit Pistons are a team trying to change more than a decade of losing, and though some fans might like the “hope” a trade like this inspires, it would still be a step back in their overall goal of sustained success.
