Detroit Pistons: Top-two wins of the season so far
2. February 8: Pistons 122, Nets 111
Even without Kevin Durant, this Brooklyn Nets squad has shown how dangerous they can be offensively.
Detroit can make no such claim. But on this night, it was the Pistons who displayed superior shooting prowess. They led by as much as 20 during this contest.
Grant continued his torrid scoring pace with a career-high 32 points. Rookie Saddiq Bey displayed veteran confidence, torching Brooklyn for 15 points just in the fourth quarter.
And most notably, this win established that Detroit has a propensity for beating championship contention teams while struggling against everyone else.
1. January 8: Pistons 110, Suns 105
The Phoenix Suns, currently second in the daunting Western Conference, held a 23-point lead over a then-one-win Detroit team.
Langston Galloway was splashing triples over his former Pistons squad in what seemed to be a fitting revenge game.
But the Pistons clawed back.
Blake Griffin looked like the version of old. Mason Plumlee and Delon Wright made nice contributions. The biggest revelation, though, was the 31-point onslaught from Jerami Grant.
Grant hit the ground running to start the season, but the comeback win over Phoenix is when the rest of the league started to notice. He got to the rim at will and shot well from deep, including a 3 in the final minute of overtime to put the game out of reach.
To battle adversity against a great team at full strength and emerge victorious solidifies this game as the Pistons’ most impressive thus far.
