For whatever reason, sports cards are back. They are selling for higher than ever, and they don’t have to be old to be worth a small fortune, which is why now is the time to invest in the Detroit Pistons.

Holographic cards of Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson from their rookie years are already selling for up to $500, and their base cards fetch around $100. The crazy thing is, these cards are easy to find in your local Walgreens or Target.

Even players who haven’t proven themselves yet like Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball are destroying the market. Their base cards are going for about $50.

The incoming rookie class has had an effect on the sports card market as a whole. Sealed base packs, which usually retail for about five dollars, are being resold for up to $30.

Players like Obi Toppin and hometown heroes like Killian Hayes and Saddiq Bey often fly under the radar. This means you can easily pick up a base rookie card for a couple of bucks at most.

Detroit Pistons: Buy Pistons’ rookie cards now

I’m an emotional collector, and if I found a Saddiq Bey rookie card, I’d be thrilled just to have it. Unfortunately, many people in the market are driven by profit, not emotions. So if Saddiq takes home the Rookie of the Year Award, or if Hayes blossoms into a star (or even just a solid starter), the prices will go up. Way up.

Realistically, if both Bey and Hayes end up being legitimate stars and have lengthy careers, their cards could go for $75 or more. While that isn’t an insane amount of money, it just makes sense for hometown fans to hop on board now and get their treasures, rather than wait for the hype to land in Detroit and prices to skyrocket.

Ball and Edwards entered the league with massive expectations, and their memorabilia had prices to match. The old adage is to buy low, and now might be the lowest the class of 2020 will ever be, so hop on the train while tickets are cheap.
