Possible Detroit Pistons draft picks: Cameron Thomas and Trendon Watford

The LSU players have a little more upside and might be better roster fits with the Detroit Pistons if they fall to the second round.

Cameron Thomas: Thomas is a freshman who averages 22.9 points per game, so he has some upside as a scorer. He shoots a high-volume of 3-pointers though he doesn’t hit many of them, shooting just 30 percent from behind the arc. His shot should get better and most scouts think he could be a better shooter in the NBA.

There is some question about his handles, as he turns the ball over way too much but Jones can put it in the bucket, which will get him a look from someone, possibly the Detroit Pistons, who need to add some scoring.

Trendon Watford: Troy Weaver likes long players and Watford is one of them, with a massive 7-foot-3 wingspan which could translate to plus defense in the NBA. He is a guy who can defend and rebound already though there are big question marks about his shot and ball handling.

He will need to improve both to have a shot in the NBA but his length and defense will grab some team’s attention. He fits the profile of what the Pistons like, which is versatile and long defenders, so they could take a flyer on Watford in the second round.

None of these players are going to be at the top of the Detroit Pistons’ draft board, but if they fall to the second round, could be fits.
