Detroit Pistons: Will Josh Jackson be traded at the deadline?
Why the Detroit Pistons should trade Josh Jackson now
There are some arguments for trading Jackson as well.
The first is that his value might be higher now than it will be in the future. Any team looking for a defensive wing might like the idea of adding Jackson, and since they can get next season at a team-friendly price, he has more value than if you wait until next trade deadline when a team would only get him for a half a season.
He has shown enough that some contender might give up a project player and a heavily protected first-round pick for Jackson, in which case Troy Weaver should probably jump at it.
Also, Diallo is younger and probably better than Jackson already. He does all the same things Jackson does but with a higher ceiling and a more promising future. Diallo has gotten better every year he’s been in the league while Jackson’s career has been marked by inconsistency.
The Pistons already lack shooting, so the idea of putting two bricklayers on the floor together is not that appealing, so one of them probably has to go.
If the Pistons think they can and want to re-sign Diallo to an extension, then trading Jackson makes a lot of sense, as they basically play the same role and have the same weaknesses.
Trading Josh Jackson is not an easy choice but if the right deal comes along, the Detroit Pistons should take it, as they got him for nothing and could turn him into a future asset now that they have Hamidou Diallo.
