Detroit Pistons: Hamidou Diallo makes case over Josh Jackson

I wrote yesterday that Diallo and Jackson were going to be in a competition for a future roster spot, as they both play the same position and do similar things on the floor.

I also predicted that Diallo would ultimately be the one to win it, as he is a better playmaker, doesn’t turn the ball over as much and just does all of the things that Jackson does but a little bit better.

Now is the time to play Sekou Doumbouya. light. Related Story

Jackson is on a team-friendly deal that will pay him just $5 million next season and I could definitely see him moved in the offseason in favor of re-signing Diallo, which may take $10 million a year.

He helped his case last night, as Jackson caught a DNP and Diallo made the most of it, scoring 19 points and adding 10 rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes off the bench.

This is what coach Casey had to say of Diallo after the game:

"“Once he came in the game, the game changed. He kind of lit a fire under everybody,” Detroit coach Dwane Casey said. “Athletic young man, just scratching the surface of who he can be in this league.”"

I totally agree, which is why I think Diallo will be a steal for the Pistons, especially considering what they gave up to get him.

With Bey, Stewart, Lee and Diallo, the Pistons have four players to build around and that is before you add Hayes and whoever this year’s draft pick ends up being.

The future is looking good for the Detroit Pistons who might be good a lot sooner than people expected.
