Detroit Pistons: Should the Pistons be concerned about Hamidou Diallo?

When the Detroit Pistons first traded for Hamidou Diallo I thought that they got a steal.

Diallo is an ascending player who has gotten better every season that he’s been in the NBA and looked like he was on the cusp of a breakout with the Thunder.

Svi Mykhailiuk was disappointing for the Pistons this season, so it was a win-win to ship him out for a guy with a much higher ceiling.

Diallo didn’t take long to show fans of the Detroit Pistons what he can be, as he strung together four games when he first came that had fans thinking Troy Weaver had found another undervalued talent.

Diallo scored 19, 19, 14 and 11 in a four game stretch while flying all over the place, throwing down some highlight-reel dunks and looking like a guy who could be a lockdown defender on the perimeter in the future.

Since then? Diallo has disappeared.

Detroit Pistons: What is going on with Hamidou Diallo?

Diallo has only scored in double-digits once since then, has racked up some DNP’s and has largely been ineffective when he has been in the game.

After missing two games in a row with a nagging injury, Diallo came back against the Cavs and notched just five points and two rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.

Is this just due to a lingering injury? Should the Detroit Pistons be concerned?

Troy Weaver was part of the team that drafted Diallo, so I am sure he has a pretty good idea of what he can be as a player.

I doubt his opinion of Diallo will be changed by a few bad games at the end of a season when he is battling an injury, but it’s also fair to wonder if Diallo’s lack of production lately will affect his future contract with the Pistons or whoever signs him.

I’d love to see Diallo back at 100 percent sometime this season so the Pistons can get a better idea of what he can be moving forward.
