Detroit Pistons: 3 possible forwards in NBA free agency

It is no secret that the Detroit Pistons are in the middle of a rebuild, and veteran talent is not something they need in any form. Detroit’s top priority should be developing the young talent they have, drafting even more young talent and signing cheap veterans who can make the young players better.

Jerami Grant is the best player on this team, a Most Improved Player front- runner, and someone who was a definite All-Star snub.

He is the only player on the team that could reasonably be traded for a first-round pick. While no lottery team would trade for him, Boston has shown interest in trading for him.

The Pistons’ front office should not flip him for anything other than a first-round pick. If they were to trade him for a pick in this year’s draft, Johnny Juzang has long been my choice to land in Detroit. Adding an elite shooter and floor spacer in Juzang to an electrifying offense would propel Detroit up a notch, especially if they find success with their presumptive top-five draft pick from tanking this season.

However, if Grant is gone, then Detroit needs a starting-caliber forward to fill his role. They could find one in free agency. There are plenty of forwards that could find success in the Motor City under coach Dwane Casey. Unfortunately, most of the options are on the wrong side of 30, but they could provide immediate productive starter-quality minutes if Detroit were to move on from Jerami Grant.
