Detroit Pistons: Eyeing a top-ten defense

Yesterday Dwane Casey said that he though the Pistons could have a top-ten defense next season and I think he is absolutely correct.

The Pistons rank just 19th in defense overall this season but if you look closer at the numbers, there are signs that they are going to make a big jump.

They’ve been much better since Blake Griffin was jettisoned and with a more regular rotation and defined roles next season the Pistons could make the type of leap that the Knicks made this year defensively.

Detroit has let up 111 points per game over the last ten, which would put them 11th in the league overall, and this is while they are constantly using different lineups and haven’t really been playing their veterans, including Grant, who is their best defender.

If the young Pistons continue to improve on this end and Detroit’s rotation isn’t in constant flux, I see no reason why Casey won’t get them there next season.

Troy Weaver is clearly building around defense and if the Pistons can get into the top-ten next season they can make some noise in the Eastern Conference.
