Last month, I wrote about why March was the time to buy basketball cards if you were looking for an investment. Fortunately, when it comes to the Detroit Pistons’ rookies, the prices have begun to fall.

Players who have received national attention like Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Edwards, and LaMelo Ball still are on cards that sell for hundreds of dollars, but the bubble surrounding players like Saddiq Bey, Killian Hayes, and Isaiah Stewart has started to pop. Last month, the price of a Saddiq Bey card was around $120, which is the same price as a Pistons jersey.

Those cards weren’t even patch or autograph cards, which were going for even more.

Detroit Pistons: Now is the time to invest in rookie cards

In the past few weeks, the prices have gone down, although they are still rather high. Saddiq Bey autograph or patch cards now sell for anywhere between $20-$100. Killian Hayes and Isaiah Stewart have similar cards that sell for slightly less.

Base cards and other simple inserts can be bought for only a few bucks, so if you want to get your hands on some Pistons’ merchandise that might increase in value, cards could be the way to go.

Even if you’re a more emotionally driven collector than a financial one, now could be the time to consider making a purchase, even if prices are higher than usual. When the booming market dies down, cards get lost in boxes and set aside, so there really aren’t that many to buy.

Personally, physical cards make more sense to me than Top Shot, because real cards are easier to display and honestly are easier to understand.

Sports cards are easy to store and are certainly more unique than a jersey or shirt unless it’s the Beef Stew t-shirt. In 25 years, when Bey and company are having their numbers retired, it would be cool to know you had a piece of their origin if that’s your thing.

Last month was the time for people to gamble and buy, now is the time for fans of teams, especially a young one like this one, to get in early and show their loyalty from the start.
