Detroit Pistons: Trading Jerami Grant to Atlanta

The Hawks are in a situation very similar to the Bulls’. John Collins may leave. He apparently wants a max contract, and Atlanta is unsure if he is worth the money. If he walks, then Jerami Grant is the ideal player to complement Trae Young and Clint Capela, since Grant is a decent enough passer to find the open shooter but he can also find the basket himself.

With a high tempo offense, Atlanta would love to have Grant added to the lineup, and with an abundance of shooters for the Pistons to make an offer for, the best choice is Danilo Gallinari, who is on an identical contract to Grant.

Grant is clearly the better player, so Atlanta would have to sweeten the pot with two protected first-round picks. However, Gallinari is a good catch-and-shoot threat and can make space down low, which would be valuable if Stewart is not on the court with him.

This would be a nod towards continuing the rebuild for the Detroit Pistons, which might not be palatable to fans.

It’s clear that Jerami Grant is the Detroit Pistons’ best trade chip and they could use him to fill their need for shooting while picking up some future assets at the same time.

Is Grant available in a blockbuster trade? We might find out this offseason.
