Detroit Pistons free agent target: Patty Mills (38.7% career 3-point shooter

Another player who owes a lot of success to the Spurs’ organization,  Patty Mills is having the best scoring year of his career at age 32.

San Antonio will probably not let him walk, as he has been a fan favorite since 2013, but if he does pack his bags, Detroit would be an ideal destination for him.

A career bench leader who has been a mentor and de facto player/coach for the Spurs, Mills has been a mainstay on the Australian Olympic team as well.

He would fit right in with Detroit’s young guys and provide a leadership role for the Pistons many, many young guards.

Mills is also automatic from behind the arc.

Playing 20 minutes a game off the bench, and knocking down 4 of 5 shots would not be beyond the realm of possibility for him, especially if he was given plenty of touches.

Bryn Forbes (41% 3-point shooter)

A younger version of Mills, Bryn Forbes is a player who would come off the bench and knock down shots when needed. He’s been playing a very underrated 20 minute per game this season in Milwaukee, and has shown a bunch of improvement over the last two years.

Forbes is a Michigan State alum who was born in Lansing. It’s always nice for players to return to their home state. He would come cheap unless Milwaukee sees value in him and offers him a lot more cash than expected.

He has been compared to George Hill and has had a similar career.

Unfortunately, unlike Hill, his defense is sorely lacking and he is absolutely a defensive liability, which explains his limited minutes.

Forbes would have to be placed in a defensive-minded lineup to make up for that, but on this team, there is no shortage of top defenders.
