Detroit Pistons: End of season awards, who is the Pistons’ MVP?

With the 2020-2021 NBA Season coming to a close, the Detroit Pistons are winding down a season where their potential showed through a myriad of losses. The team currently has a record of 20-50 as of May 12th, good enough for the second-lowest winning percentage in the league.

With year one under General Manager, Troy Weaver, almost in the books, this is a great time to highlight some of the bright spots on this roster with some near end-of-season awards.

Detroit Pistons: Most Valuable Player- Jerami Grant

Jerami Grant came into the season as a new signee by the Pistons. The power forward was given the reins to the rebuilding franchise after choosing Detroit over a return to the Denver Nuggets. Grant proved his worth as he led the team in scoring at 22.3 points per game while still providing a consistent presence on the defensive end of the floor.

After putting up only nine points in his Pistons debut, Grant went 14 straight games scoring over 20 points. He had some spectacular performances this season such as his 43 point game in a three-point loss to the Chicago Bulls on February 17th.

The Syracuse product is enjoying a career year with the Pistons at the age of 27. While he did fall short of an all-star nomination, Grant has cemented himself as a candidate for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.
