Detroit Pistons: The Captain

Jerami Grant- 22.3

Nearly everything about Jerami Grant’s season was surprising to just about everyone not named Troy Weaver.

Weaver has to be given credit for his eye for undervalued talent, as he targeted Grant as his #1 get in the offseason, a move that baffled some at the time but one that no one is questioning now.

There were a lot of surprising things about Grant’s season, but his 22.3 points per game blew everyone away, as it was nearly double his scoring average from just a season before.

Grant was one of those guys who just needed a bigger role to thrive and once he got it, he didn’t let up.

I was a bit disappointed that the Pistons chose to sit him for most of the home stretch, as I thought he deserved a chance to finish out his season and at least have a shot at the Most Improved Player Award.

But Grant showed he can be a reliable scorer and though he might not be a true number one option, he’s very close and is a talent the Detroit Pistons can build around.

The Pistons didn’t win many games but they got surprising contributions from all over the place and have to be excited about the future.
