Detroit Pistons top ten rookies: No. 2, Dave Bing

Dave Bing was drafted by the Pistons in 1966 and promptly won the Rookie of the Year award.

It is hard to compare players from different eras, and there is an argument that Isiah Thomas’ rookie season was actually better, but Bing’s all-around game gives him the edge.

Bing averaged 20 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists on his way to making the All-Rookie team and winning Rookie of the Year.

Bing is one of the guys from this era who would absolutely still be able to play now, as he could do a little bit of everything including score from all over, which he showed in his second season when he led the entire NBA in scoring.

Bing would end up making seven All-Star appearances for the Detroit Pistons and solidify himself as one of the greatest players in franchise history as well as a fixture in the community, eventually becoming a civil rights’ leader and the mayor of Detroit.

Bing isn’t just a Pistons’ legend but one for the city of Detroit.
