Former Detroit Pistons, where are they now? Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Defense is what KCP was able to hang his hat on during the 15-16 season. The former Georgia Bulldog posted 2.7 defensive win shares during the 15-16 regular season, a career-high in any single season. Caldwell-Pope put up 14.5 points and 1.4 steals per game with the team that season. However, three-point shooting was an area of concern as the guard shot only 30.9 percent from three on nearly five attempts per game.

KCP’s best game in the Pistons’ playoff series against the Cavs came in game three in which he posted 18 points and 4 steals while knocking down three of his eight three-point attempts. The shooting guard averaged 15.3 points 1.8 steals and 40.3 minutes per game in the series. Caldwell-Pope shot 44.4 percent from three on 6.8 attempts per game as well.

The following season with Detroit would be KCP’s last. The Pistons elected to trade for Avery Bradley rather than re-sign Caldwell-Pope in free agency during the 2017 offseason. The Detroit Pistons would renounce their rights to KCP, who was a restricted free agent, and he would sign a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers worth $17 million. The Lakers would re-sign him three more times with his most recent deal coming in the 2020 offseason.

This season KCP is averaging 9.7 points on 41 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Lakers are currently slated to match up against the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament this week.
