Detroit Pistons draft picks: Jeremiah Robinson-Earl

The Detroit Pistons aren’t going to be drafting for fit, even in the second round, so if they take a player it will be because they think he fits Troy Weaver’s vision of what this team is going to be.

Weaver clearly wants guys who prioritize defense, as building a top defense is the fast track to being a good team. It is actually much easier to find NBA players who can score than ones who are effective and willing defenders.

If Detroit can just keep grabbing guys like JRE, they will eventually get the complementary scoring to go along with them.

The Pistons’ bench could definitely use a scorer, but the Pistons may have found a couple of those in Frank Jackson and Deividas Sirvydis, so I’d be happy if they doubled down on more versatile players who can defend.

Robinson-Earl doesn’t have the highest ceiling in the second round, but he has one of the highest floors, as he already does some things really well and has shown the work ethic he’ll need to improve.

The Detroit Pistons are amassing hard-nosed players who can defend and Jeremiah Robinson-Early would be another one if they can get him in the second round.
