Detroit Pistons: Dropping down to sixth after the lottery

Sixth is not a terrible spot to be drafting at, but for a team that lost as many games as the Detroit Pistons did, dropping as far down as the lottery rules allow would be a major disappointment.

There is also a consensus top-five in this draft that is considered a tier above the rest, so dropping to sixth in a five player draft would be some back luck indeed.

Detroit’s front office is hoping that at the very least they have a top-three pick. Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, and Jalen Green are at the top of many reporters’ big boards for the Pistons.

Dropping all the way down to sixth would likely mean the Pistons would also miss out on Jalen Suggs as well. If a slide like this were to happen it would not be surprising if general manager Troy Weaver elected to trade down a couple of picks in the draft to target a player like UConn’s James Bouknight.

That being said, missing out on one of the top three, or even top four, talents in this year’s draft class would be a detriment to Detroit’s rebuild and would be a deflating blow after a season of tanking.
