After the season, Detroit Pistons general manager Troy Weaver and coach Dwane Casey made it clear they were looking to win a lot more games next season. The Tank, their minds, was a one-year deal.

It was kind of fun to be a Detroit Pistons fan this past season, Basically, you were in a no-lose situation.

If the Pistons won, well, that’s nice. If Detroit lost, one could argue, that was even better.

The ‘Fade for Cade’ as some called it, was an attempt to land a future star out of this year’s NBA Draft by having one of the worst records in the league.

In that respect: Mission Accomplished.

Finishing with a 20-52 record, the Pistons came in with the second-worst record in the NBA standings. Only the Houston Rockets had a lousier record.

The bottom three teams all have a 14% chance in the June 22 draft lottery of getting the No. 1 pick. Detroit also has a 52% chance of having a top 4 selection.

There will be no unlucky 7s, where they alway seem to end up in the lottery, for the Pistons this time. Detroit can do no worse than the No. 6 pick in the draft.

(Of course, most draft experts think this is a five-player deep draft so being sixth would really stink, but that is a story for another day)

When the season was over, and Detroit  guaranteed to have the best odds possible for No. 1, Pistons management made one thing clear:

This was a one-year deal. Now, it’s just win baby.
