Detroit Pistons: How Quentin Grimes fits in Detroit

If Grimes is able to translate his game into the NBA, he could fill an important three-and-D role coming off the bench for the Pistons. If he can develop his all-around game, he could find his way into a starting role as his career progresses.

The Pistons experimented with Josh Jackson in a similar role to what Grimes would fill in Detroit. Jackson was able to bring the defense as a member of the Pistons, but his career three-point shooting struggles continued during his first season in Detroit.

If Grimes’ three-point shooting translates to the NBA right away, there is reason to believe he could play himself into Detroit’s rotation during the regular season. If Grimes needs more time to develop his game, he can spend a season in the G-League and take over for Jackson, whose contract expires next offseason, in the 2022-2023 season.

Grimes projects to be a career role player as he enters the league. The shooting guard will contribute as a three-and-D wing who can be a key rotational piece on a Pistons team as they look to transition from rebuilding to contending in the coming years.

If Detroit wants to improve their three-point shooting and develop into a top defensive team in the next few seasons, they should take a chance on the 6-5 shooting guard out of Houston, Quinten Grimes.
