Detroit Pistons draft picks: NBA Draft prospect Alperen Şengün

If you have not heard of Alperen Şengün then you are not alone, as the 6-foot-10, 240 lb. center plays for Beşiktaş in Turkey and is hardly a household name.

Even though he is an unknown to most fans, Şengün is a mainstay on big boards and I’ve seen him ranked anywhere from the top ten all the way to the top of the second round.

With the skillset he possesses, it is unlikely that he will fall to the second round, as Şengün has the bag to be a perfect modern center.

He is an excellent playmaker for a big man and projects as a guy who can eventually step out and hit the NBA 3-point shot. He has a 68 percent true shooting percentage, hits free throws at nearly 80 percent and has a nice touch around the rim as you can see in his highlight reel.

After Nikola Jokic brought home this year’s MVP, teams are going to be on the lookout for the next playmaking center who can run the offense and hit shots from the perimeter.

Even though Şengün did average 1.6 blocks per game, he is more of a perimeter guy and not someone who is going to be a defensive force in the paint, though he has the size to match up with most centers.

His ability to make plays and hit outside shots would make him a perfect running mate with Isaiah Stewart.
