The best centers the Detroit Pistons have ever drafted: Isaiah Stewart

It may seem silly to put Stewart ahead of a four-time NBA Champion, but this is based more on potential than accomplishments.

Beef Stew has already shown himself to be a versatile defender who averaged almost as many blocks as John Salley (1.3) in his first year in the league even though he was coming off the bench for most of it.

Stewart also showed the ability to step out the perimeter and defend  point guards, something Salley could never do. Stewart is definitely more of a modern hybrid center in the mold of Bam Adebayo than a guy who will be only anchored in the paint.

What gives Stewart the edge is that he is eventually going to be able to step out and hit jumpers more consistently. He’s been working on it this offseason and will hopefully return with some more weapons in his bag.

Stewart is emblematic of how the center position is changing and also shows that the Pistons don’t have a rich history of selecting centers in the NBA Draft.
