Detroit Pistons: Top 5 centers the Pistons have taken in the NBA Draft
The best centers the Detroit Pistons have ever drafted: Bob Lanier
Bob Lanier is the greatest center the Pistons have ever drafted and it’s not really close. The crazy thing is that Lanier did this even though his career was derailed by a knee injury that he never fully recovered from.
The Pistons drafted Lanier in 1970 while he was still laying in a hospital bed with said knee injury and he made the All-Rookie team that season even though he was basically playing on one leg.
In his second season Lanier averaged 25 points and 14 rebounds in his first of seven All-Star appearances he would make in his 10 seasons in Detroit.
Bob Lanier was not only one of the greatest Pistons’ rookies of All-Time, but one of the greatest players in franchise history.
Lanier finished as the Pistons’ all-time leader in scoring average, third in points and second in rebounds.
The Detroit Pistons have not drafted many great centers but Isaiah Stewart is hoping that he can leapfrog a few and get to the top of this list.
