Detroit Pistons Draft picks: NBA Draft prospect BJ Boston

Troy Weaver clearly has a vision when it comes to building this team. He likes long, athletic players who are versatile defenders. So far, he has looked at attitude, character and defense before anything else, which is why Boston makes sense.

Like Saddiq Bey, Jerami Grant and Isaiah Stewart, Boston is a long and athletic player who should be able to defend multiple spots in the NBA.

He is raw but a plus athlete who is a good rebounder for his position and will hopefully develop a 3-point shot at some point in his career.

If we’ve learned anything, it’s that players can improve their shot, as we’ve seen with guys like Jerami Grant and Frank Jackson in recent seasons, so it’s better to have a plus athlete who can defend but needs to improve his shooting than the other way around.

Boston is not likely to make an NBA rotation next season no matter who drafts him, so Detroit could put him in the G-League for a year and see if his blue-chip talent starts to emerge.

I believe that teams should take flyers on high-ceiling players in the second round and BJ Boston would be a worthwhile gamble.
