It’s not an overstatement to say that the Detroit Pistons are one week away from the most important day in recent franchise history.

The Pistons are hoping to get lucky in the NBA Lottery, grab the number one pick and change the fate of their franchise forever.

It’s crazy that luck plays such a huge role in team building, but it’s true that the destiny of the Pistons is going to be shaped one way or another.

The Pistons’ pick is going to be in the top six, but the difference between pick number one and number six could be the difference between being a contender in a few years or being a perpetual lottery team.

Detroit Pistons: What are the Pistons’ lottery odds?

If the Pistons don’t get the number one pick, they are desperate to stay in the top four, as there are four guys who are more or less consensus future stars in the NBA. Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Jalen Suggs and Jalen Green are all considered guys who could alter the fate of a franchise.

The Pistons have a 52.1 percent chance of landing in the top-four, which shows why tanking doesn’t guarantee anything, as the Pistons are nearly as likely to be choosing 5th or 6th.

Detroit will have a 14 percent chance at the number one pick overall, same as Houston and Orlando, so even though they have the best possible odds, it is still a long shot that the Pistons will get the number one pick.

Most fans are preparing for the worst, and the field is wide open for who they might draft if they drop out of the top four.

Detroit Pistons: When is the NBA Draft Lottery?

The NBA Draft Lottery will be held on June 22, exactly one week from today, and those of us who live and die with this team will not be sleeping much between now and then.

Live coverage of the NBA Draft Lottery will be on ESPN at starting at 8:30 PM ET, which seems like an eternity from now.

This will be one of the most important days in recent Pistons’ history and fans will be watching this more closely than any game over the last few seasons.

Will the Detroit Pistons get hosed again? Will they finally get some luck in the NBA Draft Lottery? We will have to wait a week to find out.
