One of the interesting subplots of this year’s NBA Playoffs is just how many ex-Detroit Pistons are playing a big role.

There is at least one ex-Piston on every team remaining in the playoffs, with nine players left who used to play in the Motor City.

There were 20 when the playoffs began, proof that the Pistons were really good at developing and hoarding role players but not so good at finding the star to put them around.

Tony Snell is still playing for the Hawks, Tobias Harris is trying to help carry the banged up 76ers to the Eastern Conference Finals, Khris Middleton is playing well for the Bucks, Langston Galloway is still kicking around on the Suns, Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris are helping to carry the Clippers and Blake Griffin and Bruce Brown are playing big roles for the Nets with Spencer Dinwiddie hoping to return to for the Finals if they make it there.

So which ex-Pistons are going to bring home a title? Let’s take a look at the odds.

Detroit Pistons: Betting odds for the NBA Championship

According to WynnBet, the Nets have the best odds of winning the title at +210, and if that happens it will be Blake Griffin finally getting his chip after years of striking out in Los Angeles.

This would also be big for Bruce Brown, who is looking to get paid this offseason and can up his asking price if he has a championship on his resume.

The Suns have the second best odds at +250 and the Clippers are next at +425, which is kind of surprising after they dispatched of the Jazz, but this has to do with the uncertainty of Kawhi Leonard.

The Bucks are at +450, odds that will certainly go down if they beat the Nets, as many feel the Bucks and Nets are the two best teams remaining in the playoffs.

The 76ers are only getting +600 odds, probably because of the uncertainty around superstar center Joel Embiid while the Hawks are the long shot at +3000.

If I were to make a value bet here, I’d go with the Bucks, as one more win over the Nets will get them to the Eastern Conference Finals where they will be the favorite to go to the championship and perhaps win it all.

No matter which teas wins the title, the Detroit Pistons will have played a small role by providing the league a steady stream of role players to help build their roster.

Now the Detroit Pistons need to work on finding their own stars so that they can quit being a farm team for the rest of the NBA.
