The Detroit Pistons finally got some luck in the NBA Draft lottery, not only getting the first overall pick but doing it in a year when there are some potential superstars in the draft.

Most pundits agree that there are at least five guys who could be franchise-changing talents and at least ten more after that who could be very good players if not All-Stars.

This is one of the deepest NBA Drafts in years, so there have been some suggestions that the Pistons should trade their #1 pick so that they can grab additional assets and still get an impact player.

We will not be entertaining that idea in this particular Mock Draft, as Cade Cunningham is too good to pass up, but there are likely to be several lottery trades this season and the Pistons could end up getting a second 1st round pick to go with Cunningham.

Here is our most recent mock draft, the first we’ve done post lottery.

Mock NBA Draft: The Detroit Pistons do the right thing and take Cade Cunningham

I am sure some people will talk themselves into any manner of trade or find reasons why someone else should be the number one pick in the NBA Draft.

The Detroit Pistons haven’t had a number one pick in 51 years, so no, they aren’t going to trade it away for more picks or your favorite team’s unwanted players.

The whole point of tanking is for this exact thing to happen, so the Detroit Pistons aren’t going to get cute here, they will take Cunningham and add him to one of the best young cores in the Eastern Conference.

With Cunningham, Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart, the Pistons have the beginning of something special and could even sniff the playoffs next season. Troy Weaver will do his due diligence of course, but in the end, Cunningham is coming to the Detroit Pistons.
