Detroit Pistons: NBA Draft trade with the New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans were a tough team to find a trade with, as their needs are similar to the Pistons in that they are trying to add shooting.

However, the Pelicans also need defense, especially on the wing, as both Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are below average defenders. They also need bench depth and could use a veteran point guard depending on what they do with Lonzo Ball.

The Pelicans are also desperate to get rid of Eric Bledsoe and might have to give up an asset to do it. Would the Pistons be willing to take on his extra year (which is not fully guaranteed)?

In this trade, the Pelicans get some depth, better defense and get off of Bledsoe’s extra year. They get a future first round pick back that will be protected in the top-20, but will have to wait until the Pistons convey the one they owe to Houston, which will hopefully be soon.

The Pelicans get some future cap space relief and don’t really need to add another draft pick anyway, as they already have a ton of young guys.

The Pistons have to take on the dud Bledsoe but get the 10th pick for their troubles.

I am not sure either team would do this trade, but if New Orleans really wants to get rid of Bledsoe, it isn’t going to be cheap.
