The Detroit Pistons have the number one pick in the NBA Draft and are almost certain to use it on Cade Cunningham, despite all of the talk swirling around the NBA grapevine.

The Cavs, Rockets, Pelicans and Thunder reportedly all called the Pistons to inquire about trading for the number one pick and I am sure Troy Weaver took the calls.

It’s his duty to do his homework and to see what is out there, and we have a duty to talk about trade possibilities, but in the end, Cade Cunningham is coming to Detroit.

Weaver and his team are not going to miss a chance to at least hear what is out there, nor are they going to pass up opportunities to scout players for future reference, but that doesn’t mean any of these offers are serious. Here are a few reasons why the Detroit Pistons will take Cade Cunningham in the NBA Draft.

Detroit Pistons: Other teams don’t have what it takes to trade up

Just looking at the four teams involved in these rumors, I don’t see one with a package that would even tempt the Pistons to trade Cade Cunningham.

The Pistons aren’t trading the chance at a superstar in Cunningham for Collin Sexton and the Cav’s pick, it’s just not enough and future picks are meaningless when you have no idea if the team will be good in five years. Too risky and who wants to pay Sexton? Not me. Hard pass.

The Rockets could give up the number two pick but I am not high on any of their young players. The Pistons could have had Christian Wood if they wanted him and Jae’Sean Tate is a 25-year-old “rookie” who would be like the third oldest player on the Pistons. Super hard pass.

Unless Zion Williamson’s name is mentioned, the Pelicans can kick rocks, as all of their future picks are going to be garbage.

I would put the Thunder in the same category as the Cavs. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is more tempting than Sexton but still not enough considering Cunningham could be as good as him in his first season. I just don’t see it.
