The Detroit Pistons already have a French connection with Killian Hayes and Sekou Doumbouya, but the best NBA Draft prospect from France is still 17-years-old.
Victor Wembanyama is one of handful of NBA prospects who has become a legend before most people have even seen him play.
Wembanyama is a 7-foot-2 forward out of France who might be the best European prospect, well, ever.
Videos started circulating of him a few years ago, when he was just 15 and so skinny he looked like he might break. He is still an orange on a toothpick, but Wembanyama has put on some strength and has been flashing skills that might make him the number one overall pick in the NBA Draft someday.
The Detroit Pistons already have two French players and would love to add this kid in the future, as he could be one of those players who changes the game, a legit 7-foot-2 player who can shoot and has guard skills in a giant body.
Detroit Pistons NBA Draft: Victor Wembanyama is unlike anything you’ve ever seen
Victor Wembanyama is currently dominating in the FIBA U19 World Cup, where he has helped lead France to the semi-finals. Mike Schmitz, a scout from ESPN, called Wembanyama the “Most intriguing long-term prospect I’ve ever evaluated.” And you can see why:
The kid has “in the gym” range at 7-foot-2, is already a gifted shot blocker (as you saw in this clip where he literally just catches the shot in the air) and can handle the ball, making him a potential Unicorn in the vein of Kristaps Porzingis.
Victor Wembanyama won’t be coming to the NBA Draft for at least another year, depending on whether the NBA changes its rules for eligibility, so will most likely be coming out in the 2023 draft.
Imagine a guy with the size of Porzinigs but better playmaking ability, elite shot blocking and the jumper of Kevin Durant and you have an idea of the type of potential scouts see in this kid.
The Detroit Pistons will hopefully be good around the time he is coming out, so are a long shot to add another French player to their roster, but they have created a potential pipeline for French talent, which seems to be at an All-Time high.
Victor Wembanyama is the stuff of legend for now but is a guy to keep an eye on down the road for the Detroit Pistons.
