Detroit Pistons,
Detroit Pistons,

The NBA Draft is mercifully over and the Detroit Pistons have emerged with Cade Cunningham to go with three second round picks.

I made some bold predictions for the Pistons’ draft and most of them came true, as the Pistons grabbed Cade, traded Mason Plumlee and took a big in the second round.

The really unexpected part was the Pistons using all three of their second-round picks, as I thought for sure that they would trade one or more of them in an effort to move up.

But they didn’t, so Troy Weaver had three chances in the second round to find someone that sticks. While I really like one of the picks, the other two are fairly baffling.

Here are grades for each of the Pistons’ picks, starting with Cade Cunningham.

I couldn’t be happier that Cade Cunningham is coming to Detroit.

It appears the feeling is mutual, as Cunningham has talked about how excited he is to come to Detroit and even put on the Buffs for his interviews. He’ll be an instant Detroit legend just for that.

Cunningham has superstar potential on both sides of the ball, a complete prospect who can score from all three levels and is going to elevate the play of his teammates.

I love his potential with Saddiq Bey and Killian Hayes on the perimeter, and the three could form a lockdown defense with Jerami Grant and Beef Stew.

Although there was some speculation the Pistons might try to trade back, that deal never emerged, so they just took the best player available.

After more than a decade of suffering, the Detroit Pistons finally have a star to build around.
