Detroit Pistons: Luka Garza has something to prove in Summer League

Luka Garza has plenty of doubters, which is why he went so late in the second round of the NBA Draft after being one of the best college players of the last 20 years.

I put him on my list of NBA Draft prospects to avoid, mostly because I think he’ll have a difficult time defending quicker and more athletic players in the NBA.

Of course, that has been said of a lot of guys who ended up succeeding, so I am pulling for Garza to prove all of the doubters wrong.

He’s going to enter Summer League with a chip on his shoulder, ready to make all the NBA writers eat their words, which could lead to some big games.

Guys like Cade Cunningham aren’t trying to make the team, they are the potential superstars that teams are trying to build around, so there is no real pressure to perform or expectation that they will play big minutes.

Garza doesn’t have that luxury, as his roster spot is not guaranteed, so he needs to prove himself and will be doing it against guys who are younger and often less developed as players.

All signs point to Luka Garza being the next Summer League legend, but I hope it doesn’t end there, as I’d love to see him prove everyone wrong and be a solid NBA player for the Detroit Pistons.
