Detroit Pistons: Bismack Biyombo is a cheap rim protector to target in free agency
Bismack Biyombo is a center the Pistons could likely bring in on a veteran minimum contract. If he is added to the roster, Biyombo would be another undersized center in Detroit, he stands at 6-8. The 28-year-old may be smaller in stature, but he has made a name for himself in the league as a shot blocker.
Biyombo averaged 1.1 blocks per game with the Hornets last season.
In terms of defensive prowess, Biyombo is not at the same level as Noel, but the big man would be the cheaper option. Noel is the type of player you could slide into the starting lineup if needed, Biyombo is the type of big you want to come off your bench the whole season.
Biyombo is not as quick as Noel, and he is more of a liability if he is switched onto guards, but he is not a guy who will be targeted in drop coverage in pick-and-rolls. Biyombo has the strength to be a good post defender as well.
Like Noel, Biyombo is limited on the offensive end as well. Biyombo is not going to attempt a lot of shots and he’s mostly going to be limited to putbacks and wide-open dump-offs in the paint.
Ultimately, if Weaver is looking for the cheapest option possible in a prospective backup big, Biyombo would be the ideal candidate for him to target.
