Detroit Pistons: The Bulls could sign-and-trade Lauri Markkanen

If the Bulls have no interest in signing Markkanen to a long-term deal, then they will try to find a team to do a sign-and-trade so that they don’t lose him for nothing.

If so, the Detroit Pistons are unlikely to be in the mix, as they don’t have the right combination of contracts to send back, especially after trading Mason Plumlee and cutting Cory Joseph, Deividas Sirvydis and Tyler Cook.

The Bulls would need to find someone who has a salary to send back and I don’t see that team being the Pistons, as the Bulls have been connected to the Pelicans among others in potential trades.

If the Pistons wanted to take a chance on Lauri Markkanen, then they would likely have to do it in restricted free agency, which could potentially mean outbidding several teams, including the Bulls.

It’s not impossible, especially if the Pistons are willing to go into the $15-18 million per year range, but is he even a good fit?
