Detroit Pistons: NBA Free Agent-Lauri Markkanen

Markkanen does not really fit the mold of the type of guys the Pistons have been targeting, as he is not a great defender and has some injury issues.

But from a strictly basketball perspective, he is a nice fit, as he adds an element that they don’t currently have, which is a big man who can stretch the floor.

Markkanen has looked like a star at times, and a 7-footer who can knock down 3-point shots at a high rate creates a lot of problems for opposing defenses, especially when you have someone who can get him the ball.

The Pistons will have two of those in Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes, who should be able to break down defenses and get the shooters a lot more open looks.

Markkanen and Cunningham could be potentially lethal in the pick-and-roll with their combined size and length and could have one of the best two-man games in the league over time.

His size and shooting would give the Pistons a ton of lineup possibilities and he could be the Pistons’ 6th man and still play a lot of time with the starters.

I like his fit, but there are definitely some obstacles to making it happen, so I’d say he’s a long shot, but one to keep an eye on for the Detroit Pistons.
