Detroit Pistons: Cade Cunningham could be better than Jimmy Butler…soon

Jimmy Butler shouldn’t even be here. An average player at Marquette, he is somehow a five-time All-Star. There’s no doubt he’s deserving of it, as he’s one of the hardest workers and best defenders in the entire league.

But Cade could be better.

Butler is an elite defender and a great player and I wouldn’t be surprised if Cunningham never lives up to the defensive prowess Butler has established as a five-time All-Defensive team member and a steals champion.

Even if Cunningham never comes close to the dominance Butler has reached, he’ll be an elite defender capable of playing against the best players on the opposing teams. But overall, Butler will be remembered as the worse player.

Why Cade Cunningham should be "very excited" to come to Detroit. light. Related Story

Cade is a much better three-point scorer and is capable of scoring more than Butler any given night. I wouldn’t be surprised if he averages more points than Butler as soon as next year. His interior shot is admittedly not as consistent as Butler’s but Jimmy Buckets doesn’t have Cade’s range.

Even though Butler has proven to be a very scrappy player, Cade will be able to match him in the rebounding category as well.

Cunningham will be running the offense for Detroit from day one, but without constant double-teaming, he could be a better ball handler and passing is also an area where Cade Cunningham will surpass Butler soon in his NBA career.

On Oklahoma State, Cunningham was by far the best shooter (OSU was 202nd in the nation) so he really had no options to pass the ball to in order to get easy shots. There was no help. Saddiq Bey and Jerami Grant should instantly help with that, and if Isaiah Stewart extends his range then Cade will have three options in the starting five.

Butler is a great player on both ends, but Cade has more potential as a shooter and eventually a playmaker for his teammates.
