Fans of the Detroit Pistons who live more than 75 miles from the arena are going to be in for a shock when they try to buy tickets this year.
We all know that our lives have changed in myriad ways over the last years as we try to beat back a pandemic that has ravaged the world.
One of these changes is that going to live events has been a minefield of warnings, changes and cancellations that have made some people just tap out on trying to make plans.
The NBA wants to have fans in the arenas again but will certainly have limitations and rules, something that fans of the Detroit Pistons are finding out as they try to buy tickets.
Detroit Pistons: Live outside of Detroit and want to buy Pistons’ tickets? Think again
If you live outside of the Detroit metro area and recently tried to buy tickets, then you probably got this warning:
Only fans with a billing address within 75 miles of the arena will be able to buy tickets to Detroit Pistons’ games as of today (I just checked again).
This is probably in an effort to keep out of state (or out of country in the case of Raptors’ fans) fans from flocking to games and increasing the risk of COVID transmission.
I went around to some other team’s sites and so far haven’t found any others with this particular rule, and there has been no official announcement from the team as to why this regulation was put into place.
If it makes the game experience safer for the players and fans then I am all for it, but some fans on Twitter are wondering why the team wouldn’t just implement a vaccination rule instead.
Do you remember when times were precedented? Ahhh, good old precedents.
Fans are going to have to be nimble this season as we adjust to new norms and respond to changes in how we go about watching live events.
