The Detroit Pistons have added some firepower to their roster this offseason and given coach Dwane Casey more weapons to work with.

I think that Casey has done a fantastic job for the most part, as every single Pistons’ young player improved last season with the exception of Sekou Doumbouya, who probably would have spent the season in the G-League had there been one.

Even though the Pistons only won 20 games, they played hard and were competitive in nearly all of them. Casey made his young guys earn minutes (more on that later) and rewarded them when they did.

But I’d say Casey’s rotations were the thing that got the most criticism last season and that will almost certainly be the case again next year.

I am not one of the people who questions every single move, as we don’t see what happens in practice or know what goes on behind closed doors, but there are some rotation mistakes I’d like to see Coach Casey avoid this season.

Detroit Pistons: Coach Casey needs to have shooters on the floor at all times

The Detroit Pistons offense was terrible last season, but should have more shooting next year with the additions of Cade Cunningham, Kelly Olynyk and internal improvement from guys like Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes.

The Pistons are still light on shooting in my opinion, which is why Coach Casey can’t use bench groups that don’t have a shooter in them. He needs to have one of Cunningham or Bey on the floor at all times and avoid using bench units where Hamidou Diallo and Josh Jackson play big minutes together.

The Pistons lost a lot of close games last season when they gave up extended runs where their defense played fine but they couldn’t score.

The Detroit Pistons are clearly building upon their defense, which was 10th in the NBA last season, but you have to be able to put the ball in the hoop to win, so Casey cannot fall in love with these all defense/hustle lineups that can’t shoot.
