Detroit Pistons: Anthony Tarke’s long, winding road to NBA camp
What are Anthony Tarke’s chances of making the Detroit Pistons?
The fact Tarke is a good defensive player who can guard multiple positions is a major point in his favor. Coach Dwane Casey has stated he wants the Pistons to improve defensively and be a top 10 rated team.
Although a first-year pro, Tarke is more mature than most. He is older than all but seven of Detroit’s players (there is a dispute on his birthday, most places say he was born in 1998 but the Pistons official site lists it as 1997). Tarke also has played five years of ball since high school and is versatile, having been at four different programs.
The one mark against Tarke, and the reason he most likely was not drafted, is that he is a shooting guard who does not shoot very well from outside. He is a career 30.6-percent shooter on three-pointers and, even at Coppin State, made just 32.1% of his threes.
The Pistons already have guards who are shaky on three-pointers, so tarke would need to excel at the other facets of the game.
Most likely, Tarke will start with the Cruise to work on his shooting. But, as an older and more experienced rookie than most, he would be able to help the Pistons if called upon.
But, with the hunger Tarke has after all the hurdles he has faced to reach this point, do not count him out of making the NBA club.
