One of the major areas of concern the Detroit Pistons addressed this offseason was roster depth. Second-year GM Troy Weaver added a lot of talent to this roster through the draft and even free agency.

Weaver used four draft picks, one in the first and three in the second. Of the three second-rounders, two would make the roster. With the number one pick, Weaver selected Cade Cunningham. Isaiah Livers and Luka Garza are the two second-rounders Weaver signed to NBA contracts.

In free agency, Weaver brought in two new signees in KellyOlynyk and Trey Lyles. Frank Jackson, Cory Joseph, Hamidou Diallo and Saben Lee were also brought back on new contracts.

The additions made by Weaver to the Pistons roster has certainly generated a much deeper team than the previous season. Head coach Dwane Casey will have plenty of options as he builds his rotation heading into the 2021-22 season.

With more depth, inevitably some players will end up with fewer minutes than they feel they deserve. With the roster as it is currently constructed, there are two Detroit Pistons who received major minutes last season who could find themselves outside of Casey’s rotations.

Both are veterans with big flaws in their game who could find themselves buried on the depth chart, especially if the young Pistons play well.
