Every team has at least one player who defies expectations and has a breakout year. Whether they go from a key role player to a perennial All-Star or a bench warmer to a valuable rotation piece, there is bound to be someone who sees serious improvements in their playing time and team role. The Detroit Pistons are no exception.

Last season for the Detroit Pistons, Jerami Grant was that breakout player. The 27-year-old power forward posted career highs in points per game and minutes per game en route to a bid for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.

Grant went from a high-end role player during his time with the Denver Nuggets to the number option offensively with the Pistons. Few foresaw this breakout season by the 27-year-old.

Detroit’s 2021-22 roster is unlikely to have a player make a massive leap the same way Grant was able to a season ago. But there are still multiple players on this young roster who could take massive steps forward in their development this season.

Here are three current Pistons who could have breakout years this upcoming season.
