Detroit Pistons: The bench needs more shooting

With a starting lineup of Cunningham, Hayes, Bey, Grant and Stewart, the Detroit Pistons should still have plenty of offense to start games.

The issue is going to be when Cunningham, Bey or Grant go to the bench, as their replacements are guys who are not necessarily great shooters. If the Pistons are going to play Josh Jackson and Hamidou Diallo off the bench, then they need more shooting around them, which Olynyk can provide.

I assume coach Casey is going to stagger Cunningham and Hayes so that there is one playmaker on the floor nearly all of the time, and the one who stays in the game can work in the pick-and-roll with Olynyk as the primary scoring option.

This will help create space for guys like Jackson and Diallo, who are good cutters that need to find ways to take advantage of their athleticism.

There is going to be plenty of crossover between Olynyk and the starting five, but when he is out there with one of the starting guards and the bench, he can be an offensive weapon that gives the Pistons more balance between their two units and helps create chances for the bench players who are not great shooters.
