Detroit Pistons: The Cade Cunningham movie is out now
Fans of the Detroit Pistons are eager to see number one pick Cade Cunningham in action on the court, but until then they can check out his story in a recent documentary.
Cunningham is the subject of a recent 3-part documentary film by Overtime that tells the story of how he came to be the point guard of the Detroit Pistons.
The film has wide-ranging behind-the-scenes footage of everything from Cade Cunningham messing around in a music studio to his relationship with his older brother, to how he ultimately became a point guard and eventually the number one pick in the NBA Draft.
Part 1 starts with his childhood in Arlington, Texas, where he started playing basketball at age three and had a “big head” according to his cousin.
Cade’s older brother Cannen was clearly a huge influence on his life and career and it is interesting to get a peek at how it all went down.
Cade Cunningham: From playground to the Detroit Pistons
I will let all you watch the documentary for yourselves, but I thought one of the most fascinating parts was watching how much work goes into becoming a pro athlete.
People love to use terms like “God-given talent” to describe NBA players, as if they were just handed something they didn’t have to work for. What I like about this film is you can see the amount of work even someone with superior athleticism has to do to make it as an NBA player.
The doc does have some not-so-subtle product placement in it, but also some really engaging footage of Cade as a kid shadowing his older brother in the gym that gives us a bigger story of how he came to be the number one pick in the draft.
It’s clear to see why the Detroit Pistons are so high on this guy, as Cade Cunningham is a really smart, dedicated player who is going to get Detroit back where they belong in the hierarchy of the NBA.
If you want to learn more about Cade while we wait for him to get back on the court, check this three-part film out.
