Detroit Pistons: These 3 players were sent to the G-League, but why?
Detroit Pistons: Luka Garza might deserve a shot as well
The Detroit Pistons are not going to be a good team whether Luka Garza is in the G-League or not, which is why I’d rather he just play as the third center.
Do the Pistons benefit at all from giving Trey Lyles minutes? Detroit doesn’t really have a traditional center on the roster and I for one would rather see Garza soaking up those minutes and building chemistry with the other young guys than seeing journeyman Lyles out there.
I get the argument that putting guys like Garza and Lee with the G-League will give them the chance to play big minutes, but both of these guys have already shown that they can play well against G-League level competition, so are they really going to improve?
We know that both Lee and Garza will be back with the team, probably soon, so this really isn’t a big deal. It’s more symbolic than anything, and with the Detroit Pistons’ veterans starting so poorly, I’d rather just lean into development and run with the young guys.
Coach Casey gets paid to win games, so I understand what he is doing by playing his veterans, but in the end, they aren’t part of the long-term plans, so if the Pistons keep losing there is no argument for running Cory Joseph and Trey Lyles out there every night while some of your future pieces are in the G-League.
