The Detroit Pistons got their second win of the season, defeating the Houston Rockets and Jalen Green on the road.
Green talked plenty of trash, but Cade Cunningham was the one knocking down clutch shots in the 4th quarter to secure the win for the visiting Pistons.
All eyes were focused on the two top picks in the 2021 NBA Draft, but the player of the game was Jerami Grant, who poured in 35 points and carried the Pistons in the 3rd quarter.
The Pistons had a lousy first half, scoring just 49 points before Grant went off for 19 in the 3rd quarter to give the Pistons the lead. They were able to hold off a late Rockets’ rally and secured the win.
There were some interesting statistics from the win, both good and bad, so let’s take a look at the numbers that stood out.
Detroit Pistons: Interesting numbers from the win over the Houston Rockets
112
The Detroit Pistons scored 112 points against he Rockets which marked the first time this season the Pistons have cracked 110 points.
Detroit is the lowest scoring team in the NBA, mostly due to historically cold shooting to start the season.
The Pistons didn’t shoot it much better last night, but they were able to hit shots when it mattered. Both Jerami Grant and Saddiq Bey were huge in the second half, as they were able to take over at different points and give the Pistons some much-needed scoring.
Houston has one of the worst defenses in the NBA, and the Pistons’ offense was still stagnant and awful at times, so no one is going to walk away from this game thinking Detroit has figured it out, because they haven’t.
But it was nice to finally break 110, which is pretty much the average for a modern NBA team.
