Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons has been an Iron Man for most of his career, rarely missing games up until last season.
Grant is currently out with a thumb injury, but that hasn’t stopped the trade rumors and many believe he’ll be one of the hottest commodities on the trade market before the deadline.
With so many teams in contention this season, Grant could be viewed as a complementary piece that could push one of them over the top, so the Pistons will have suitors for his services.
But what will prospective trade partners be getting from Jerami Grant? Well, a guy who has been healthy for most of his career.
Grant played 65, 77, 80, 80, 81, 80 and 71 games for the first seven years of his career and didn’t suffer a single significant injury.
But that all changed last season, and Grant is out again in this one, so let’s look at his injury history starting from now and dating back to last season.
December 2021: Jerami Grant out with torn ligaments in his thumb
Jerami Grant injured his thumb on a fairly gruesome play where it was driven directly into the floor, which looked mighty painful.
His thumb was pointed in the wrong direction, so clearly something was wrong. Grant suffered the injury on the 11th of December and will be re-evaluated in six weeks.
This injury is not one that should be career-threatening and obviously teams think he is going to return if they are inquiring about trading for him.
Counting last night against the Pacers, Grant has now missed three games on the season.
October 2021: Jerami Grant out with an elbow injury
Grant did miss one game earlier this season with a minor elbow injury, but it didn’t keep him out long. He tweaked the elbow in one of his worst games of the season vs. Chicago, where he scored just nine points.
April 2021: Jerami Grant shut down with a knee injury
Last season was the first where Grant missed significant time due to injury, as he only played 54 games, lowest of his career. He suffered a knee injury on April 7th and the Detroit Pistons just shut him down for the season, as Grant missed the final 15 games with Detroit in full tank mode.
March 2021: Jerami Grant misses time with a quad injury
The injury that started it all last season came at the beginning of March when Grant tweaked a quad muscle and had to sit out for a few games. This is an injury that seemed to hamper him for the rest of the season, as he was never really right after missing those two games in March. He did have some of his biggest games in March but also had some of his worst and was laboring throughout.
Overall Jerami Grant has been a very reliable player in his career, but the last two seasons have seen him pick up some nagging injuries that have caused him to miss time, though I have a feeling he would have played more had the Detroit Pistons been in contention.
