The Detroit Pistons are unlikely to be making a splashy move an the trade deadline, as they don’t really have the pieces, especially with Jerami Grant out with injury.

It’s still possible that the Pistons could trade Grant, who is by far their best trade asset, but I can also see scenarios where they extend him if they can’t find the right deal.

There are a lot of teams in contention that could use Jerami Grant, so his value may never be higher, but he is also out for at least another five weeks, so that move may be a ways off if it comes at all.

But the Detroit Pistons do have a few bench veterans that desperate teams might want, as pretty much the entire league is shorthanded because of COVID right now. It’s almost as if playing basketball games in packed arenas during a pandemic was a bad idea, but I digress.

With so many players missing games this season, the Detroit Pistons might have some leverage simply by having healthy bodies to trade.

Would anyone want the Detroit Pistons’ veterans in a trade?

If you take Jerami Grant and Kelly Olynyk of the table, the Pistons don’t have any veterans who are going to be game changers or get a big haul in a trade.

  • Josh Jackson
  • Cory Joseph
  • Trey Lyles
  • Rodney McGruder

None of these guys have a ton of value, but they aren’t helping the Pistons either, so if Detroit can get any kind of asset in return, they might as well, as none of these guys are part of the long-term plans.

Of the four, I’d say Josh Jackson will get the most interest as a versatile defender on a low-ball contract that ends after this season.

Cory Joseph could help any team looking for backup point guard depth, as he is a solid veteran who knows how to run an offense.

Trey Lyles may help a team that needs a stretch big or just big man depth in general, though his minutes at center this season have not been inspiring.

Rodney McGruder would be for a team that just needs a body to throw out there.

So which teams are most desperate for help? There are at least six who might want some of these guys.
