Cade Cunningham injury history and updates
Cade Cunningham is still out for the Detroit Pistons, who are hoping their young star doesn’t have to miss the rest of the season.
He got off to a good start this season, though his shooting from long range was still off, which could have been made worse by an injury that had apparently been lingering since training camp.
Cade Cunningham already has a spotty injury record in his young career and is now facing missing most of this season, which is pretty much the nightmare scenario for the Pistons.
This was updated on November 5, 2022.
November 2022: Cade Cunningham out with shin fracture
Cunningham is still out with what is being called a stress fracture in his shin. He is reportedly weighing his options between rest and surgery that would likely end his season.
February 2022: Cade Cunningham leaves game with a hip pointer
The Pistons were playing well against the Pelicans and had built a 15-point lead before Cade had to leave the game with a minor hip injury. He did return to the bench, so hopefully he was kept out more as a precaution than anything.
The offense left with him and the Pistons struggled mightily to score after their catalyst left the game. He has been listed as day-to-day and will hopefully suit up tonight against the Timberwolves.
December 2021: Cade Cunningham is out with COVID
The Detroit Pistons hadn’t had a single player enter the league’s health and safety protocols before Cade Cunningham was announced on December 22nd. Since then, eight of his teammates have joined them, all of which happened after they played the Knicks and were exposed to Nerlens Noel, who went out with COVID the next day.
Teams are not giving updated medical status on players in protocol, which is too bad, as it would be nice to know which guys are suffering effects from the virus and which aren’t.
October 2021: Cade Cunningham suffers an ankle sprain
Cade Cunningham twisted his ankle in practice in early October and was forced to miss all of preseason as well as the first five games of the regular season.
This was a big setback for the number one pick and it took him some time to get his legs under him, which was reflected in his poor shooting numbers. Since then, he has started to figure it out and was playing well before being hit with the COVID bug.
