Detroit Pistons: Trading Jerami Grant to the Atlanta Hawks

This trade makes some sense for the Pistons, who will undoubtedly be looking for young, high-ceiling talent in any Jerami Grant trade.

Cam Reddish definitely fits the bill, as he is still just 22, signed to a team-friendly deal that runs through next season and has flashed high-level ability.

Reddish is a very athletic wing with size who has upped his 3-point shooting to nearly 39 percent this season, which would immediately be an upgrade for the Pistons, and potentially a better long-term fit with Cade Cunningham.

This would give them two versatile young forwards in the starting five and allow Saddiq Bey to move to power forward full time, which is probably his best position for the future.

Gallinari’s contract is only partially guaranteed next season, so the Pistons could waive him and only be on the hook for $5 million, which opens up more cap space to sign a free agent like Deandre Ayton.

However, the Pistons would have to be comfortable with the idea of re-signing Reddish, otherwise  they’d be giving up Grant for a one-year rental, in which case they may as well just keep Grant.

But if they are, this trade does make sense, as it gives them some financial flexibility to go along with a talented young player.

Ultimately, I don’t see this trade happening without a third team involved because Grant just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for Atlanta, but it’s one I am sure we are going to hear plenty about over the next few weeks.
